Hello fellow Keyshooters,
does anyone else have the same problem, that flakes are shown correctly in the real-time view, but once you start rendering, the geometry of the flakes goes back to its initial form?

FYI:
Using Keyshot 2024.3, Version 13.2.1
GPU Mode, RTX 3060
Hey Philipp,
No issues here:
Not sure what driver you use, I’m on now on the (not recommended) latest Game Ready driver which is from a few days ago.
They can move as well
Hmm, I thought of the driver as well, and indeed I updated yesterday to the newest version, optimized for design related stuff.
I will change it and see.
Thanks!
I think the latest driver without known issues in combination is still the one from September 2024. I always keep that in mind so if I have strange issues, I’ll try that one.
No issues though with the flakes here so must be something else. I did see there was an option ‘flakes only’ and if you disable that option you will also see the cube again in render view. Not something you can change with render settings though.
And I saw your cube was going below the ground level so also tested if that might have caused it. No luck replicating your issue though. If you want, you can always send me a file for a check how/if it works here
Hello Oscar,
thanks again for all your help.
So I was trying to fix the issue, but for some reason nothing works:
Was using the newest driver for the graphic card (Studio and Game-Ready Option), with and without opzimization for Keyshot…even used an older version of the driver (September 2024 as recommended), but nothing. Still doesn’t render as flakes, but as a cube.
Rendering on CPU works though.
So I really don’t know what causes this issue.
The strange thing is that you do see them in real time view. If it would be something like too little VRAM or so that wouldn’t work as well.
Can you just export that cube scene you made which gives issues. I mean, it’s a digital world so I would think that one would give me issues as well. I do notice you have very tiny flakes and a LOT but well, as previous, if it looks ok in real time view it should also render to my limited logic
Excatly, it really doesn’t make any sense to me as well.
And yes, I also thought that I might have executed too many flakes, but I decreased the amount, the density and increased the size of the flakes as well…nothing.
Will send you a file.
Sent you a file via wetransfer.
It gets really confusing. This is 2024.3 + 2025.1 Beta 2, so weird
edit
Just disabled my 4090 and enabled my 3090 so we’re in the same GPU series but that still rendered the scene. I’m puzzled.
Jeez…okey, thanks for trying.
At this point I really don’t know what it could be.
Tried old gpu driver, different settings, … nothing worked.
Only CPU, but that takes ages…
I am puzzled as well.
You could send it to support, they might have heard about someone with the same issue and know an answer. But if it’s new and it’s not replicating on their systems that might be hard as well.
Hmm, not sure if they could help, because it this point it doesn’t seem to be a problem with Keyshot, but with the GPU.
I’ll keep trying, otherwise I need to upgrade to another GPU or send those to a rendering farm.
Not sure how much you need to render but I don’t mind having my PC rendering a bit if you can share the scene.
I don’t know if you have tried uninstalling the drivers with DDU. Than you start your PC in safe mode (using msconfig) and run DDU to get rid of all your Nvidia related files.
Before you restart again you use msconfig to boot normal again and if it restarted you install the Nvidia drivers again.
DDU makes really sure the driver install is from scratch so no old Nvidia related files are left behind. Just saying since upgrading a GPU with current prices is no fun and I wonder if it would help.
DDU: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) download version 18.0.9.3
Thanks for your offer.
If that is really no biggie, I would have 2 renderings I would like to do.
Hmm, sounds interesting, need to take a closer look into that.
I am not very familiar with this kind of stuff, but currently my GPU is working just fine, also on my renderings, just the Flakes are not working.
Update: just tried the other geometry nodes as well: Displace and Fuzz works totally fine, but Flakes and also Bubbles are not working. Coincidence?
Will reach out to support now and will take it from there.
Thanks for your help and suggestions on this issue!
Oddly enough I had the same thing happen, but couldn’t repeat it…
I rendered an image on Friday where the flakes material didn’t render at all, when i rendered a second time it did it normally. I did not change any settings, literally just re-clicked the render button:
Hmm, interesting. So maybe it has to do something with the complexity of the scene and how much Ram, VRam and CPU percentage is already occupied.
Unfortunately I tried already a bunch of times, but no change.
Or maybe it is just because of the Salt & Pepper Renderweekly challange
I have no idea, so this isn’t that helpful but thought you would want to know it’s not 100% isolated to you.
I have tried to replicate it this morning, I thought maybe having some of the flakes below the ground caused it after looking though your posts but I haven’t had any success in repeating it.
Thanks for letting me know and also in retrying it.
Well, I am glad yours got fixed on its own.
Right now I am waiting for support’s reply, otherwise I need to find another solution.
May I ask, what CPU and GPU you are using?
